Cattle driving ceremony in Bad Kleinkirchheim – a regular celebration in mid-September for guests and locals alike!
Autumn – a time for enjoyment! Late Summer is the ideal time to explore Bad Kleinkirchheim at its best – with pleasant warm walks in the Nockberge mountains of Carinthia, relaxation in the thermal Roman baths with their numerous soothing treatments, savouring the wide range of tasty regional treats and experiencing the local customs and culture.
Schedule of the ‘Almabtrieb’ (ceremonial driving down of cattle from the Alpine pastures in autumn)
Starting from 10:30 am - morning get-together at the Unterwirthof in Bad Kleinkirchheim with music
ca. 11:00 am – rrival of the cattle at Gasthof Hinteregger inn in St. Oswald/Bad Kleinkirchheim, where the animals will be decorated with flower wreaths (shuttle bus leaves at 10am from Bad Kleinkirchheim – St. Oswald and return) and departure of procession towards Bad Kleinkirchheim
Fringe events at the Unterwirt at the festival grounds
- Arrival of the cattle with the Bad Kleinkirchheim folk band
- Blessing of the animals by catholic priest, with the Bad Kleinkirchheim folk band, afterwards live music
- American auction of an Alpine calf for a good cause
- An entertaining children’s programme is guaranteed! Homemade crafts and products will be on offer at the farmers’ market stalls.
