Trattlerhof goes green

Climate change is one of the biggest challenges for the human race. It causes harm to ecosystems and affects the very foundations of life.

Support Helena’s Final School Project on Sustainability

Helena Klaes, a long-standing regular guest at the Trattlerhof, is conducting an anonymous survey on the topic of sustainable holidays as part of her final school project. As a sustainably oriented hotel, we are very happy to support this project and warmly invite you to share your impressions with her.

The survey only takes a few minutes – thank you very much for your support!

SDI Gold Award

Sustainability is not just a concept for us – it’s a matter close to our hearts! Through responsible management and targeted initiatives, Hotel GUT Trattlerhof has achieved GOLD status in the SDI rating – a distinction currently held by only 9 hotels in all of Austria. With an outstanding CO₂ value of just 1.33 kg per overnight stay, we are even among the top 5 hotels in this regard. This highest level of recognition within the SDI framework highlights our exceptional sustainability performance and makes our commitment to a greener future clearly visible.

Our Sustainable Initiatives for Your Holiday

Regional Flavours & Conscious Cuisine
We are committed to treating nature with care. As a certified “Genuss-Wirt”, we focus on using locally sourced products. We serve seasonal food and beverages from the region, complemented by selected organically grown products. This allows you to enjoy fresh quality, short transport routes and authentic flavours from Carinthia.

100% Renewable Energy
We use energy and water efficiently and prioritise renewable energy sources. With our own hydroelectric power plant, we are well on our way to becoming self-sufficient in electricity – powered by 100% hydropower. Since May 2014, our entire property has used renewable bioheat. In this way, the Trattlerhof consistently embraces renewable energy.

Using Energy, Water & Resources Responsibly
We pay close attention to the efficient use of energy and water. By consciously purchasing regional products, carefully separating and recycling waste, and using cleaning and laundry products sparingly, we help conserve valuable resources. Our cleaning products are biodegradable and contribute to protecting our waterways.

Acting Sustainably Together
Our employees regularly attend training sessions and actively contribute to our environmental programme. You can participate too: if you choose to skip daily room cleaning, you will receive an environmental bonus of €3 per day, credited to your room bill.

E-Mobility – Sustainable and Comfortable Travel
Sustainable mobility is an integral part of the experience at Hotel GUT Trattlerhof. You can conveniently charge your electric car at our modern charging stations located directly at the hotel.

Alternatively, explore the region in our hotel-owned Tesla Model Y, available for excursions upon request. It is a wonderful way to combine driving pleasure and comfort with a responsible approach to our natural surroundings.

At the Trattlerhof, this creates a holiday experience that naturally combines enjoyment, comfort and sustainability.

Carbon-Neutral Holidays at the Trattlerhof in Bad Kleinkirchheim

Here at the Trattler, we are taking a responsible approach to those different stresses we place upon the environment. Since 2014, not only is your stay at the Trattlerhof CO2-neutral, but as our guest, in contrast to standard hotels, every night you will be saving 58 kg CO2-equivalent emissions (ca. 1,110 tons of CO2 annually). And since we have now calculated our “positive CO2 footprint”, as of 2015 every guest is issued their personal CO2 certificate in recognition of having made their own personal contribution.

What Do Carbon Footprint and Carbon-Neutral Holidays Mean?

The carbon footprint shows how people, companies or products affect the climate through greenhouse gas emissions. It highlights where emissions are generated and where they can be consciously reduced.

Companies, processes or products are considered carbon-neutral when their unavoidable greenhouse gas emissions are calculated and offset through high-quality carbon credits.

For your holiday at the Trattlerhof, this means that your stay is thoughtfully designed and transparently assessed. Sustainable measures and the offsetting of unavoidable emissions make a carbon-neutral holiday possible.

Sustainable Holidays Powered by Hydroelectricity from the Trattlerhof

Thanks to our on-site hydroelectric power plant, we generate more renewable energy at the Trattlerhof than we consume. We can offset this surplus against our already low carbon footprint, thereby saving additional CO₂ equivalents.

The surplus energy we produce is substantial enough to also account for our guests’ journeys to and from the hotel—an aspect that often represents a large proportion of a holiday’s CO₂ emissions.

This makes your stay at the Trattlerhof in Bad Kleinkirchheim especially resource-efficient: with 100% hydroelectric power, sustainable energy and peace of mind from arrival to departure.
